The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), elected by popular vote on June 1, condemned “the expressions of isolated violence” recorded during the march of the self-proclaimed “Generation Z”, in the vicinity of the National Palace, located in Mexico City (CDMX).
During the protests on Saturday, November 15, there were clashes between hooded people and elements of the capital’s police at the Executive headquarters.
“The Court expresses its concern and condemns the expressions of isolated violence recorded on this day in its vicinity, which included attacks on security elements, damage to facilities and attempts at violent and unauthorized entry into the building.”expressed the highest body of justice in the country made up of nine ministers.

Furthermore, he pointed out that these events, in which protesters from the “black bloc” tore down the fences guarding the National Palace and confronted the police force with stones and explosive devices, “distort the legitimate purpose of any demonstration and violate the atmosphere of respect essential for democratic dialogue.”
The Supreme Court of Mexico recognized that dissent is “a fundamental part of a democratic society,” after some of the 17,000 participants in the march demonstrated against the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum and the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), the official party from which the president comes.
However, the SCJN stressed that “this new integration of ministers has kept the doors open to dialogue; therefore, it is unnecessary to resort to violence to express a claim.”

Since its formation on September 1, the SCJN has been questioned by civil society organizations for its closeness to the ruling party, since the profiles of the ministers are similar to the government headed by Sheinbaum.
Prior to the Court’s position, the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) of Mexico also condemned the violent actions presented during the November 15 march towards the elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC-CDMX), which There were twenty civilians and one hundred police officers injured, as well as twenty people detained.
“In the violent acts, homemade explosive devices, rockets, tools and objects were used against the security forces and against people passing through the capital’s Zócalo”noted the Segob.
Sheinbaum, who has criticized this mobilization because it links opposition groups to his Government, also called for the march, in which Mexicans of all ages participated, to continue through “peaceful means.”
