Two men died following a shooting that occurred early this Sunday evening in Montijo. The information was initially provided by CNN Portugal and confirmed by Expresso with the Setúbal Territorial Command of the GNR, having been later updated by the Lusa agency, which confirmed the deaths.

GNR source told Lusa that the two victims were transported to Barreiro hospital and it was within the hospital unit that the deaths were declared. Authorities are still formally identifying the two men and determining their ages. Earlier, the GNR had confirmed to Expresso that the victims were possibly family members.

The alert was given at 7:55 pm. The victims were found in cardiorespiratory arrest and underwent advanced life support maneuvers, according to Civil Protection, and were transported to Hospital do Barreiro at around 8:45 pm, accompanied by INEM teams.

The shooting took place in the “Café do Apeadeiro” area. 23 operatives and eight vehicles from the firefighters, GNR and INEM were mobilized to the location, which isolated the area and provided pre-hospital assistance.

The suspects remain on the run. According to the GNR, the presumed perpetrator of the shooting is a man with an “employment relationship” with the victims. Authorities are still investigating whether he acted alone or accompanied. The Setúbal Judicial Police is investigating the case.
