SEOUL / LONDON (IT BOLTWISE) – Samsung faces a challenge with the Galaxy S26 Ultra: While competitors are massively upgrading their camera technology, Samsung is largely sticking with proven sensors. Samsung has always raised high expectations with its Galaxy smartphones, especially when it comes to camera technology. But the latest Galaxy S26 Ultra leaks suggest that the company may not be able to keep up with the competition’s innovations in this area. While other manufacturers are equipping their cameras with new, powerful sensors, Samsung is sticking with most of its existing components.
A leaker recently posted details about the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s camera sensors on Twitter. Accordingly, the new model will use largely the same sensors as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. These include a 200MP Isocell HP2 main sensor, a 50MP Isocell JN3 ultra-wide angle and a 50MP 5x IMX854 periscope sensor. Only the 3x telephoto sensor receives a small upgrade from 10MP to 12MP, which seems rather modest considering the competition, which already uses 200MP telephoto sensors.
Interestingly, the main and periscope cameras of the S26 Ultra are said to be equipped with larger apertures, which promises at least an improvement in light capture. However, the question remains whether these changes are enough to convince demanding users who are increasingly relying on the latest technologies.
Another aspect mentioned in the leaks is the possible use of the Exynos 2600 chip in some models of the S26 series. This chip could support 8K/60fps video recording and 14-bit RAW output. However, it is unlikely that these features will be available in the Exynos models, as Samsung typically aims for feature parity between the Snapdragon and Exynos variants of its devices.
Samsung’s decision to largely rely on tried and tested camera sensors for the Galaxy S26 Ultra could have an impact on the company’s market position. While the competition comes up with innovative technologies, Samsung could be in danger of losing out. It remains to be seen how this strategy will impact sales and brand perception.
