Mexico City. – The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHyCP) reported that until September the Tax Administration Service (SAT) records a tax debt for the sum of 3 billion 98 thousand 372.1 thousand pesos, but of this sum, the majority corresponds to debts of large companies.
The federal agency stressed that of the amount of taxes not paid to the SAT, 37 percent, which is equivalent to 1 billion 176 thousand 975.8 million pesos, correspond to large companies active in the country. “Practically four of every 10 pesos that the Mexican treasury claims correspond to tax credits from large taxpayers, companies whose turnover exceeds 1,500 million pesos annually,” reported the SHCP.
In addition, the Secretariat pointed out that of the more than 3 billion 98 thousand 372 thousand pesos, there is a balance of one billion 995 thousand 324.8 million that are in limbo because they are considered in controversy and cannot be collected, because taxpayers resorted to legal means to avoid paying all taxes.
These have been the cases of the Salinas Group of businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego, who since the last six years in court has sought to evade paying taxes in several companies that make up the Salinas Group such as Elektra, Tv Azteca and Total Play. The SHyCP also includes as money in controversy the amounts that the mining company First Majestic Silver refuses to pay, a matter that also had to be resolved by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).
Regarding the legal route, the Secretariat considered going to court as positive, since in 2025 for every peso invested in litigating, they will obtain 956.1 pesos more in rulings in their favor.
Meanwhile, the federal agency points out that the industries that register a greater number of tax evasion, They correspond to the manufacturing sector; professional, scientific and technical services; and wholesale trade.
