The UN is no longer a space that favors the link between nations and the resolution of conflicts, said Claudia Sheinbaum.
Mexico City, November 4 (However).- The President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo He insisted this Monday that the United Nations Organization (UN) has lost its strength, so he considered it a good time to reform the organization.
“The truth is that United Nations has lost in recent years, from our point of view, its strength in terms of its multilateral organizations, and as a space that allows the link between different nations and peoples, and the resolution of conflicts,” said the president.
The Chief Executive recalled that the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Juan Ramón de la Fuente, raised before the General Assembly of the HIM different proposals for reform, for example, one related to the Security Council.
“Important proposals have been made […] but it is an important moment for countries to discuss the role of the United Nations and how it can be strengthened,” Sheinbaum stressed.
The doctor’s statements come one day after the Ambassador and permanent representative of Mexico to the UN, Héctor Vasconcelos, stated that without a fundamental reform, the organization will become obsolete.

The Mexican Foreign Minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, reiterated Mexico’s position that a reform of the structures and working methods of the UN is urgent, with the aim of delivering results that become tangible benefits for people.
“The UN has become, without a doubt, an absolutely indispensable institution, but one that, for that reason, unavoidably and urgently requires reform,” he commented.
During an event held within the framework of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, the head of the SRE stressed that the organization continues to be the best tool to promote peace, development and human rights, but that an analysis is required to determine what improvements are necessary.
