The Greater Fayetteville Chamber’s Military Affairs Council (MAC) has launched an important initiative to support military families at Fort Bragg. Given the financial strain that many of these families are currently experiencing, the need for concrete help is great. The effort, known as Operation Patriot Pantry, aims to collect much-needed food and other supplies.
On Thursday, November 20, MAC will be accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Highland Shopping Center in Fayetteville. The community is encouraged to donate non-perishable food, clothing and hygiene items. Long-life foods such as cereals and canned goods are particularly in demand, preferably with pull-open lids, as not everyone has a can opener.
Donations collected will be transported by a local moving company, Two Men and a Truck, and delivered to the Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg. This organization will direct the supplies to the Fort Bragg Food Pantry to support Soldiers and their families. The campaign is sponsored by Blue Star Families, who are also taking part in the event.
Retired U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Ferd Irizarry, MAC chairman, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “Our mission is to support our military community, and currently the most effective way to do that is by providing essential resources to those experiencing financial stress,” he explains. The Greater Fayetteville Chamber and MAC encourage area businesses and individuals to participate in this important effort.
Greater Fayetteville Chamber President and CEO Nat Robertson emphasizes that it is time to reciprocate the service soldiers provide to the country. “Our service members and their families support us year-round and protect our freedom. Now is the time to reciprocate that gesture,” Robertson said. The campaign aims to completely fill the truck by 3:30 p.m. to ensure maximum benefit for the affected families.
