The bad weather that is hitting the country caused the death of an 85-year-old British woman in Albufeira, said this Saturday, November 15th, the district commander of relief operations in Faro, at a press conference. The woman was at the Albufeira campsite.

28 people were also injured due to the extreme wind phenomenon that occurred this morning in the Algarve municipality, two of which were in serious condition. According to Civil Protection, the injured are of Portuguese, Spanish, French and British nationalityCivil Protection announced.

The strong winds, which resembled a tornado, hit a campsite and a hotel in Albufeira.

The President of the Republic has already come to mourn the death of the British citizen and offer “his solidarity to the family of the fatal victim, as a result of the passage of depression Cláudia, this morning in Albufeira”.

The storm also caused damage in Lagoa and Silves. In total, the Algarve region recorded more than 400 incidents due to bad weather.

Further north, in Vila do Conde, there are reports of flooding in the basements of houses.

In Santa Maria da Feira (Aveiro), the storm and intense rain this morning caused flooding, fallen trees and road closures. The situation is under evaluation, the Civil Protection councilor told Lusa.

According to the Portuguese Navy, the bars of Caminha, Douro, Vila Praia de Âncora, Esposende, Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde are closed.

The bars in Aveiro and Figueira da Foz are conditioned.

In the central area, the Portinho da Ericeira bar is closed, and in the south, the Albufeira, Alvor, Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira bars are closed. The one in Portimão is conditioned.
