The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky declared this Sunday that he was “personally” grateful to Donald Trump, after the American president published a message on social media once again accusing Kiev of showing “no gratitude”.
“Ukraine is grateful to the United States, to every American heart and personally to President Trump for the help that, starting with [mísseis] Javelin, saved Ukrainian lives,” Zelensky said in a message on the X social network.
In a message on the Truth Social platform, the US president also criticizes the Europeans, who “continue to buy oil from Russia”, as well as his predecessor Joe Biden, whom he accuses of inaction at the beginning of the conflict.
“He inherited a war that should never have happened, lost to everyone,” wrote the president in capital letters on his social network.
“Ukrainian officials have not expressed any gratitude for our efforts, and Europe continues to buy oil from Russia,” he continued, adding: “The United States continues to sell massive quantities of weapons to NATO for distribution in Ukraine (Joe, the scoundrel, gave everything, for free, for free, for free, including ‘large’ sums of money!),” adds the president.
Trump’s statements come on the same day that the US Secretary of State, equivalent to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in European governments, met in Geneva with a Ukrainian delegation, hoping to move forward with Donald Trump’s plan for Ukraine.
The US government now presents the 28-point plan as “a framework for negotiations”, which aims to end the conflict caused by almost four years of Russian invasion.
Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer agreed today, during a telephone call, that it was important to “all work together at this critical moment” for Ukraine’s future, Downing Street reported.
The two leaders “agreed that they must all work together at this critical moment to establish a just and lasting peace” in Ukraine, reads the text cited by the France-Presse news agency (AFP).
