Good morning, Catalonia
Born into a proletarian family as Rosalía Vila Tobella, on September 25, 1992, about an hour from Barcelona. His father is of Galician and Andalusian descent, and one of his grandparents is Cuban.
2006
The passion of flamenco
At the age of 14, he became enchanted by flamenco. Camarón de la Isla, a popular singer of that musical genre, who died the year Rosalía was born, is her reference. Later, he entered the Higher School of Music of Catalonia.
2016
California in sight
After combining studies with performing in bars and weddings, where he charged 80 euros plus dinner, he met Raül Refree, a Catalan musician and producer, with whom he would record his first album. In the same year, he moved to California, in the United States.
2017
Angelic debut
Releases “Los Angeles”, the first album, produced by Raül Refree. Well received by critics, the album proposes a reinvention of flamenco. In September, he performs at Theatro Circo de Braga.
2018
Pop with concept
As part of the bachelor’s degree project, he is preparing his second album, “El Mal Querer”. Presented by ‘Malamente’, the album mixes pop and concept and collects awards.
2019
Hello World
Riding on the success of “El Mal Querer”, he embarks on his first world tour, which passes through Portugal for a concert at the Primavera Sound festival, in Porto. In the same year, he participated in the film “Pain and Glory”, by Pedro Almodóvar.
2020
A star is born
He moves to Miami, Florida, where he begins working on “Motomami”. Released in 2022 and closer to reggaeton, the album includes ‘La Fama’, with The Weeknd, and is presented with two major concerts in Portugal, at the Altice Forum Braga and the Altice Arena, in Lisbon.
2025
There is light
“Lux”, the fourth album, lands with a bang. ‘Berghain’, the first single, mixes opera with Björk and a quote from Mike Tyson; On the album, he sings in 13 languages, including Portuguese, with Carminho. Pop won’t be the same, neither will she.
