Ukrainian and American authorities will soon meet in Switzerland to discuss Donald Trump’s plan to end the Ukraine warwhich raised concern among Ukrainian authorities, the Ukrainian Government announced today.
“In the next few days, in Switzerland, a cconsultation between senior Ukrainian and North American officials on the possible parameters for a future peace agreement”, Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian Security Council, announced today on the social network Facebook, cited by the AFP news agency.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree establishing the delegation that will be responsible for participating in negotiations with Washington and, in the future, with Moscow.
This delegation will be led by the head of Zelensky’s Cabinet, Andriy Yermak, and will include, among others, Rustem Umerov, the heads of the security and intelligence services and the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. It will be an essentially military delegation.
The 28-point plan drawn up by the Government of US President Donald Trump is seen with great concern in Kiev, as it incorporates several important Russian demands: for Ukraine to cede territory, accept a reduction in its Army and renounce membership in NATO.
However, it offers Kiev security guarantees from the West to prevent any further Russian attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had rejected the plan on Friday, which Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are pressuring him to acceptstating that he would propose “alternatives” to the Americans.
Donald Trump gave Ukraine up to November 27thThanksgiving Day, to respond to the solutions proposed by the Americans.
“They’ll have to like it, and if they don’t, well, you know, you can just keep fighting,” declared the North American leader on television.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, stated on Friday that the American text “could serve as the basis for a final and peaceful solution” of the conflict that began in 2022.
Putin said he was ready for “a full discussion of all the details” of the text prepared by Washington.
In case of rejection by Ukraine, Putin threatened to continue territorial gains at the front, where his Army holds the advantage.
Faced with this double pressure from the United States and Russia, Zelensky also began consultations with his main allies in Europe.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, in a war that began in 2014 with the annexation of the Crimean peninsula by the Russians.
