ANational Maritime Authority is carrying out searches off Caminha to find three fishermen, of Indonesian nationality, who are missing at sea. THE The local fishing vessel they were traveling in sank at around 12:20 pm this Sunday.

The captain of the Port of Caminha, Fernando Vieira Pereira, told Lusa that there were five people on the vessel. Two of which were removed and transported to Viana do Castelo Hospital. According to the person responsible, the accident occurred in a rocky area ofisland of Ínsuain Moledo, in the municipality of Caminha, in circumstances that are still being investigated.

In a statement, the National Maritime Authority states that following an alert received at 12:20 p.m., searches were immediately launched, by sea, by the crew of the Viana do Castelo Lifeguard Station and members of the Caminha Maritime Police Local Command, and, by air, by an aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) and another from Spain.

During the search operations, coordinated by the Port Captain and local Commander of the Maritime Police of Caminha, it was possible to locate two of the victims, the master of the vessel and a fisherman of Indonesian nationality, and they were subsequently assisted and transported in a conscious state to a hospital unit by members of the Caminha Volunteer Fire Department.

At the location, the search for three fishermen of Indonesian nationality was suspended at the end of the day, reported AMN. To the Searches will resume on Monday morning.
