The Taliban government considered this Wednesday that the attack against two US soldiers in Washington last week, whose presumed author is a Afghan citizenit was an incident that “It does not concern the Government or the Afghan people”.
“This is an incident committed by an individual. The person who carried out this act was trained by the Americans themselves. Therefore, this incident does not concern the Government or the Afghan people”said Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, in a video released by his office, in the Taliban’s first official reaction to the attack.
Kabul had not yet officially reacted to the shooting of two members of the National Guard, recorded last Wednesday, which resulted in death of one of the victims, a woman.
The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwala 29-year-old Afghan, injured when he was detained at the scene of the attack, pleaded not guilty on Tuesdayduring a hearing via videoconference from the hospital where he is hospitalized, according to various media outlets, including CNN.
The man arrived in the United States in September 2021, less than a month after the hasty withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan, following the Taliban’s return to power.
This former member of a special unit of the Afghan forces, who had served alongside US military personnelwas part of the vast evacuation operation of Afghans who collaborated with the United States against the Taliban.
