The Siri voice assistant will be updated next year with Artificial Intelligence (AI) developed by Google, part of a deal that will cost the Apple billion dollars a year (around 868 million euros).
Apple and Google are closing in on a deal that will help bring Siri up to par with the latest assistants, which are powered by large language models (LLM), according to the company. Bloombergcited by Europa Press.
As part of this partnership, Google is working on a personalized model, based on your own technologywhich will have a capacity of 1.2 billion parameters, a measure that allows the AI’s behavior to be adjusted and which determines its accuracy and reliability.
Currently, the model that Apple uses for the Apple Intelligence system has 150 billion parameters, so the Google’s Gemini model will be used to improve Siri’s ability to summarize and plan functions.
The custom model will run on Apple’s private cloud computing servers and not on Google’s infrastructure.
The agreement has a cost of one billion dollars per year (around 868 million euros) for the Cupertino company, although the Apple does not intend this to be a long-term solutionbut only until its teams can develop a new AI of their own that can replace Gemini.
The company expects this redesigned voice assistant to hit the market in spring 2026, with Siri integrated with other applications and capable of understanding natural language to facilitate full control of the device with just your voice.
