Footballer João Neves and actress Madalena Aragão want Portuguese citizens living abroad not to be unable to vote in January’s presidential elections. In a campaign by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two raise awareness among the diaspora about confirm, either on the official voter registration platformeither at the nearest consulates, your location of votes before the electoral rolls close.
With the French capital as a backdrop, the protagonists of the video warn that any change in address – and, therefore, at the polling place – must be done until the electoral rolls closeon November 18th.
In the video, Aragão learns, through an alert on his cell phone, that the elections that will choose the next head of state should take place on January 18th, and informs the Portuguese midfielder, next to him on a garden bench. “I don’t know if I’ll be in Portugal that day”, asks the Paris Saint-Germain player. “But aren’t you already registered in Paris?” asks the actress.
“With the new address on my citizenship card, it is possible for me to vote here”, doubts João Neves. “You can see this on the internet in an instant”, suggests Madalena Aragão. Or to the consular authorities, where they later go.
Once the doubts were resolved, and upon leaving the Portuguese consulate in Paris, the athlete noted: “it’s a good thing we came before the 18th of November, otherwise it would no longer be possible to change the electoral rolls”. “You can believe it!”, confirms the actress.
“If, like João Neves, you live abroad, confirm your voting location at www.recenseamento.pt. If you are not registered and wish to vote at a Consular Post in your area of residence, register by November 18th”, appeals to the Government in the video description.
