The GNR and PSP registered, in the first nine months of this year, 25,327 incidents of domestic violence, the highest figure in the last seven years, as of September 30, according to data from the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG).

According to the CIG portal, consulted this Wednesday by the Lusa agency, between July 1st and September 30th, security forces recorded 10,558 situations.

In the same period, five homicides were recorded in the context of domestic violence, bringing the number of deaths this year to 18, of which 16 were women and two men.

According to the portal, which has been collecting data since October 2018, never in the last seven years has the number of occurrences in a single quarter been so high – the closest was the third quarter of 2022, with 8887 cases.

The number of homicides in the first nine months of 2025 is equal to that in the same period in 2024 and lower, for example, than in 2022.

In global terms, as of September 30, the PSP and GNR recorded, in 2019, 22,362 occurrences; in 2020, 21,623; in 2021, 19,781; in 2022, 23,264; in 2023, 23,306; and, in 2024, 23,302.

According to the 2024 Annual Internal Security Report (RASI), last year the police received 30,221 reports of domestic violence and recorded 23 homicides in an intimate context.
