He is one of the most important names in music North American folk of the last 30 yearsand returns to Portugal these days for three concerts: at Ponto C in Penafiel on Saturday, the 8th; in the gnration of Braga on Sunday, the 9th, and at Teatro São Luiz, in Lisboaon Monday the 10th, as part of the Vale Perdido festival. In a generous conversation, Will Oldham, who we have become accustomed to calling Bonnie “Prince” Billyexplains how he lost his ashamed to introduce yourself as an artistyour passion for radio stations of unusual programming and the love story with Portugal. “In addition to these concerts, we are only going to give one in Madrid. The tour almost doesn’t even make sense… I just wanted to have a reason to return to Portugal.”
How are you today?
I’m quite well. I’ve been working in upstate New York: I’m an actor in a movie and filming has been going on very, very early. Today I hope to be able to have a rest day in New York.
When does the film come out?
I was in the first few days of filming, and I have another month of filming, I think. That’s why I imagine the premiere will be in a year, more or less.
O timing of films is different from that of music…
Yes, in films everything is different. Deadlines, for example. In music, you schedule a concert for six or nine months from now. At the cinema, they call you and say: “Can you come here in three months to do this?”
But do you also like this world, cinema?
Yes, I really like it. I appreciate the camaraderie and teamwork.
Maybe it’s not as lonely as touring solo?
Yes, and it’s also good to have a boss. In music, I’m the boss. In a movie, everyone tells me what to do, which is great.
