The depression Emilia is crossing the Atlantic and will change the weather in practically the entire continental territory in the next few hours: sharp drop in temperatures, intense rain, strong gusts of wind e snow in the North and Center place a large part of the country under orange and yellow warnings issued by IPMA.
Maximum temperatures should be between 10ºC and 13ºC in several regions, while the cold air mass favors snowfalls above 1400 to 1600 metersespecially in Guard and in White Castlewhere there is orange warning until midnight on Saturday.
Heavy rain in several districts
By the end of this Friday afternoon, districts such as Lisbon, Santarém, Évora, Setúbal, Faro, Beja, Portalegre, Leiria e Coimbra are under yellow warning due to the forecast of rain sometimes heavywhich could lead to rapid accumulations.
The wind will also intensify, especially on the coast and in the highlands, with gusts that can exceed 80 km/h.
Despite being the least relevant part for the continent, the sea will also worsen in the coming hours. The strong ripple results from very deep depressions in the North Atlanticnot directly from Emília, and justifies warnings for several coastal districts.
Wood under red warning
A Madeira will be affected differently, with waves that can reach 14 metersvery strong wind and snow in mountainous areas. This is a more extreme phenomenon, but less representative for the direct impact of the Emília depression on the continent — main focus of the next 48 hours.
