The Union of Pre-Hospital Emergency Technicians (STEPH) this Saturday repudiated the words of the president of INEM about excluding anyone who resists the change and demanded that they recant, stating that in a medical emergency no one should be left behind. In an interview with Primeiro Jornal, Luís Cabral refused to recant.
The new president of INEM defended that the refounding of the institute that ensures pre-hospital medical emergencies must be swift, warning that anyone who is resistant to change will not be included in this process.
“It is my desire to include everyone who wants to be part of the new National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM). However, it is also my obligation to guarantee a speedy refounding process, so whoever decides to remain immobile, or is an unfounded resistance to change, will remain in the old INEM”, wrote Luís Mendes Cabral.
In Primeiro Jornal, the president of INEM reinforced the idea that the institute needs strong leadership and regretted that some workers no longer took pride in their profession. Luís Cabral reiterates what he said in the letter he sent to professionals yesterday.
“In a very clear way, people need to realize that INEM has leadership. And also in relation to the unions, in a clear way, I will not be using arguments in the media with the unions.”
Regarding the general strike, pre-hospital emergency technicians say they will also stop next Thursday. Minimum services have been decreed, but the president of INEM said he cannot guarantee that professionals will comply with them.
Regarding the Independent Technical Committee’s proposal to merge lines 112 and SNS 24 into a single call center, the President of INEM expressed doubts and He advocated, however, a common screening system.
