The GNR closed an illegal home in the municipality of Oliveira do Bairro, having identified a 34-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man for mistreating the elderly, this security force announced today. The investigation by the Aveiro Territorial Command had been ongoing for four months and focused on the repeated practice of crimes of physical and psychological abuse of the elderly.
“The Guard soldiers carried out police investigations that allowed them to determine that the suspects were carrying out the activity of welcoming elderly people in rented residences, without the spaces in question having adequate conditions to accommodate the elderly residents there, nor their caregivers having adequate professional training”, indicated the GNR, in a statement.
Three home searches were carried out in the parishes of Bustos and Oiã, which culminated in the administrative closure of the structure.
“During the course of the investigation, four elderly people were removed and sent to the Social Security support network, as well as the removal and signaling, with the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People, of a child, who was sent to a social solidarity institution to support minors at risk”, added the GNR.
The facts were communicated to the Águeda Judicial Court.
The action had the support of the Health Authority of Oliveira Bairro, the Social Security of Coimbra, the Social Security of Aveiro and the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People of Oliveira do Bairro.
