Faro Hospital received six people on Saturday who were injured following the extreme wind phenomenon that hit Albufeira, one of which was seriously injured, a hospital source told Lusa.
The seriously injured person is an 87-year-old man, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Faro unit of the Local Health Unit (ULS) with polytrauma, and two other victims classified as less serious were also admitted: a 77-year-old woman and a 78-year-old man.
In addition to these, there are also three victims with no indication of severity, transferred to the Basic Emergency Service (SUB) hospital in Albufeira: a 59-year-old man and two other victims, whose age is unknown, and who were discharged early Saturday afternoon.
According to the same source, authorities continue to monitor the clinical evolution of the victims who remain under hospital care.
The meteorological phenomenon that hit Albufeira at 10:07 am on Saturday caused the death of an 85-year-old British citizen and injured 28 people, of Portuguese, Spanish, French and British nationality, Civil Protection announced.
The strong wind caused significant damage to the Albufeira Campsite and a tourist resort, with damage to structures and multiple tree falls in Lagoa and Silves.
