The 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of domestic violence after chasing the vehicle in which his ex-partner and two minors were following in Lisbon, was placed in pre-trial detention, a PSP source told Lusa.
The suspect had been arrested on Tuesday in the Lisbon parish of Olivais, as announced by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis) in a statement.
Present in court, he was subject to the most serious measure of coercion.
The detainee is suspected of having caused several collisions between vehicles during the persecution.
Cometlis said that the victim pressed the panic button when she saw the man near her house and, out of fear, did not stop the car, and was then chased by her ex-partner on the public road.
“When the victim’s vehicle was momentarily immobilized, the suspect got out of his vehicle and threw several punches at the window in an attempt to attack the car’s users. Given the several collisions between the vehicles, the minors needed to be medically assisted, presenting injuries resulting from the violence of the incident”, described the PSP.
The incident was filmed by a citizen and shared on social media, images that, according to the PSP, “were important in identifying the suspect.”
