In the week in which there was a series of elections in the US, suddenly, a scare for Trump. In New York, where attention turned in these American municipalities, the candidate supported by the Democrats won the Chamber. Democrats also won in New Jersey and Virginia, while California approved a referendum that could change the way its representatives in Washington are elected.
Perhaps this is the encouragement that the Democratic Party needs when there is just one year left until the midterm elections that will define the colors of Congress. But it’s not just the Democrats who seem revived, the entire left looks to Zohran Mamdani, New York’s new mayor, as the political model to follow to recover voters. Is this new strategy that combines street politics with social media applicable to other left-wing candidates? Does it symbolize the future of a new way of doing politics? And will it be that big of a scare for Trump?
In this ‘Midnight Express’, we have comments from António Vitorino from PS, Clara Ferreira Alves, journalist, Rodrigo Carvalho, President of the Portugal/USA Chamber of Commerce and José Miguel Sardica, historian. Moderation was by Ricardo Costa and Bernardo Ferrão. Listen to the podcast program here.
