A baby was removed by her mother from the Pediatrics ward at the Gaia hospital on Wednesday, bypassing security measures, having already been opened an internal investigationa source from the Gaia and Espinho Local Health Unit (ULSGE).
The mother took her four-month-old daughter from the hospitalin the district of Porto, during the afternoon, “after being informed by the court, during the morning, that the child would be handed over to a foster family” still during the day on Wednesday, said the same source.
The case was advanced by the “News Journal” (JN) this Thursday, which states that, immediately, the hospital reported the baby’s disappearance to the PSP and the court.
“We remember that all hospitalized children wear an electronic bracelet which emits an alarm if they go beyond the service doors, or if they are damaged or cut. The child’s bracelet was removed without any cuts or damage and was found in the bedroom’s trash can, meaning the alarm was not triggered.”adds ULSGE.
The health unit also clarifies that “At no time was there a judicial impediment to contact between the mother and the daughter, the mother maintaining the right to visit and having accompanied the child throughout the hospitalization”.
