The Mega Millions jackpot has soared to an estimated $900 million, marking the eighth-largest prize in the game’s history, after no ticket matched all numbers in Friday’s drawing. This extends the lottery’s longest streak without a jackpot winner in more than two decades, according to NBC New York.

The winning numbers drawn Friday were 16, 21, 23, 48, 70, and the gold Mega Ball 5. The next chance for players to strike it rich comes Tuesday night, when the next drawing will be held. It’s now been 38 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner, a dry spell not seen in over 20 years.

Last Mega Millions jackpot lottery winner

The last Mega Millions jackpot lottery winner won on June 27 in Virginia, when a ticket worth $348 million was sold. The current prize carries an estimated cash value of $415.3 million.
Earlier this year, jackpot winners were reported in Ohio ($112 million on April 18), Illinois ($349 million on March 25), and Arizona ($112 million on January 17).

The odds of hitting the jackpot remain a daunting 1 in 290,472,336, ABC news reported citing Mega Millions. The game is played in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands, at $5 per play. The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever, a staggering $1.6 billion, was won on August 8, 2023.
