China has been shaken by what appears to be a new scandal involving the covert use of tracking devices. A viral video that surfaced on China’s social media shook users after consumers discovered tracking devices embedded inside the soles of newly purchased shoes.

According to Vision Times, the clip, posted by the blogger “Finance Cold Eye,” shows what appears to be an electronic module concealed within the shoe’s interior.

Viewers check their own shoes

Hours after the video went viral, viewers claimed that they started checking their own purchases. Some of them reported that they immediately contacted the police after finding similar devices.

The blogger questioned why such trackers would be installed at the manufacturing stage and speculated that the devices might be used to monitor specific groups, particularly teenagers and young adults between the ages of 16 and 22. He also floated the possibility that someone could deliberately buy these shoes for a targeted individual.
