The Head of the Executive Branch claimed the self-determination of the people to elect their rulers, after being questioned about Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York.
Mexico City, November 5 (However).- The President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo He described this Wednesday as “very interesting” and “for analysis” the victory of the Democrat Zohran Mamdani to be Mayor of New York Nineva (NY)a progressive opponent of Donald Trump, President of the United States (EU)which based its campaign on income redistribution and improving the cost of living in the most expensive city in the world.
“What happened yesterday was very interesting, for all of us to analyze,” he expressed in response to a question asked by the press during his traditional “morning session.”
Sheinbaum Pardo avoided delving into his opinions on the US local election by saying that it should be respectful of US politics. However, he defended the self-determination of the people to decide who their rulers are.
“We have to be very respectful in American politics, of all countries in the world. We have always defined that it is the people of the world who must define who governs them in each region, in each state. But what happened in New York is interesting,” he added.
Yesterday, in one of the most popular votes in the history of the city, Mamdani swept the votes with 50.6 percent of the preferences, surpassing his opponent, Andrew M. Cuomo, who accumulated 41.2 percent of the votes, and Curtis Sliwa, who barely reached 7.4 percent.
“New York will continue to be a city of migrants, built by migrants and driven by migrants. And starting tonight, led by a migrant,” Mamdani said. In reference to Donald Trump, he warned that the President “will have to go over all of us.”
The Democrat remained the leader in preferences in the election due to the political program he put forward in favor of vulnerable sectors. Among the most outstanding promises is the reduction of the cost of housing in one of the cities with the most expensive square meter in the world.
It should be noted that on June 23, during his electoral campaign, Mamdani expressed his admiration for the President of Mexico, during a meeting with a Morena supporter in New York.
