The agreement will allow Congress to approve budgeted funds for the departments of Agriculture, Veterans Affairs and other agencies until January 30, while making it possible to pay the salaries of the around 650,000 officials placed on salary suspension and reinstate some officials who were suspended from employment.

Unofficially, as part of the agreement, the representative of the Republican Senate majority, John Thune, promised Democrats to vote in December on an extension of subsidies for the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, which expire at the end of the year and which had become the great obstacle to the agreement.
