Given these statements, the president stressed that the current agreement with the United States establishes respect for Mexican sovereignty and its territory, in addition to cooperation mechanisms that do not imply subordination. As a result, he stressed that the bilateral relationship is maintained under clear principles of co-responsibility.

This is not the first time that Donald Trump has made this type of statement about attacking drug trafficking cartels in Mexican territory: he did so on several occasions during his first term as President and has repeated it as a means of pressure in this second term in the White House.
