A UPS planeAmerican cargo airlines, crashed this Tuesday shortly after taking off from Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky.
The event was reported by various international media on social networks, where they also shared images.
In addition, the plane crash was confirmed, also online, by the city’s Police Department without offering more details.
“The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 (plane) was headed to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu,” in Hawaii, confirmed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which announced that it will investigate the accident in coordination with the National Transportation Safety Board.
In videos shared on social networks, a huge, dense column of black smoke can be seen near the airport runway, where the plane apparently crashed.
For this reason, local authorities issued a stay-at-home order for all areas between the northern area of the airport and the Ohio River. “Please stay away from the area,” police asked in a public notice.
This airport located in Louisville is UPS’s global air operations center, where hundreds of thousands of packages are processed each day for shipment around the world.
