MEXICO CITY.- During an initial hearing that lasted about 15 hoursa federal judge ruled justified preventive detention to the former governor of Chihuahua, César Duarte Jáquezwho will remain imprisoned in the maximum security prison of the Altiplanoin the State of Mexico, for his alleged responsibility in the crime of money laundering.
In the first hours of the procedure, which began after nine in the morning on Tuesday, María Jazmín Ambriz López, control judge, denied the request to invalidate the arrest warrant that was issued against the former PRI member since May of last year for operations with resources of illicit origin.
The expriist’s lawyer requested the duplication of the 72-hour period to resolve their legal situation, so the next Saturday It will be determined whether he is linked to proceedings or not for said crime.
During the procedure carried out in the Federal Criminal Justice Centerwith residence in Almoloya de Juárez, the Public Ministry of the case accused the Chihuahuan of diverting 73 million 925 thousand pesos from the Ministry of Finance of the state of Chihuahua, through a family business scheme.
What is César Duarte accused of?
According to the Public Ministry, Duarte Jáquez implemented a simulation scheme of support for livestock sectorwhere treasury resources went to companies where he was the majority partner.
The companies that received the resources are: Unión Ganadera Regional “División del Norte” and Financiera División del Norte.
“Pavimentos y Servicios El Parral” and “Hidroponia El Parral” also received resources, where his wife Bertha Olga Gómez Fong was the majority partner and legal representative.
According to the investigation of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), César Duarte had the collaboration of Carlos Gerardo Hermosillo Arteagaformer official of the Chihuahua Treasury Secretariat, and treasurer of the companies.
César Duarte is arrested again
The former governor of Chihuahua entered the Altiplano maximum security prison on Monday night, after agents from the Federal Ministerial Police and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) arrested him when he was traveling on the side of the Periférico de la Juventud, in the Jardines de San Francisco neighborhood, in the city of Chihuahua.
The FGR accuses him of leading a resource diversion scheme when he was governor of his state between 2010 and 2016.
