Deputy Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar spoke with “Los Periodistas” about the “predators” and “big water hogs” who oppose the initiative of the General Water Law and the reform of the National Water Law promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Mexico City, November 25 (However).– The Deputy Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar denounced that among the “predators” and “big water hogs” who oppose the reform of the National Water Law driven by the President Claudia Sheinbaumthere are even people who have recently joined Morena.
He Deputy pointed out specific groups such as LeBaron family in Chihuahua and Sonora whom he described as “true predators.” “There are other farmers who want their doubts clarified, we are approaching them. Government I think they should publish the list of all those who are stealing water and who have illegal wells. “That’s enough,” he said in an interview with “Los Periodistas.”
“There are some who recently got into Morena. It’s a shame. They have always stolen water. They have always trafficked water in Chihuahua. I don’t know who got them into Morena, but it’s a shame,” he said.
Ramírez Cuéllar said that the reform seeks to “put order” in water, end waste and combat water theft and the black market for concessions. “We have agreed with the farmers that water theft must be punished.”
“They are overexploiting the aquifers, they do not have concessions and what they are going to cause is not only that they steal the water because that is a crime, but that they will soon leave the big cities, many towns, many other ejidal plots or small producers without a drop of water to irrigate and much less to consume,” declared Ramírez Cuéllar.
Representative Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar has held talks with agricultural producers from various regions of the country, including the Santo Domingo Valley in Baja California Sur, the Mexicali Valley, Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes and Jalisco. According to the Deputy, there is a “common denominator” among farmers: the fight for a law that puts order in water. He highlighted that, after years of struggle, this issue finally found an echo in the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum, with the aim of restoring order and ending waste and corruption in the water sector.
Regarding the initiative of the General Water Law and the reform of the National Water Law, Ramírez Cuéllar pointed out that its central purpose is to guarantee respect for “absolutely the right of the farmer who has a grant of succession to his children or grandchildren”, a point that has generated disagreement.
In addition, he assured that the volume of water established in the concessions will be respected without problem. The law, he noted, seeks to put an end to “water theft” by more than 20,000 illegal wells owned by large companies and farmers, as well as to end the “black market” of concessions that deprives small and medium-sized producers.
The Deputy insisted that President Sheinbaum’s initiative is “very brave” and “very successful” to avoid the overexploitation of aquifers that are already in a “degree of depletion,” and highlighted that the proposal seeks to guarantee respect for “absolutely the right of the farmer who has a grant of succession to his children or grandchildren,” as well as respecting the established volume.
“The important thing is the virtues that this initiative by Dr. Claudia has,” concluded the legislator, calling for consensus to be found to approve the law. “I would like us to quickly find consensus, greater agreements, but it seems to me that we cannot take a step back on this issue. Respecting the rights of producers, strengthening the drinking water operating organizations in each of the municipalities and states, it seems to me that we must establish order.”
