MÉRIDA, Yucatán.— This Monday morning, the weekly press conference that heads the mayor of Merida, Cecilia Patron Laviada.
During the meeting with media representatives, the municipal president of Mérida said that he will seek to position the Yucatecan capital as one of the tourist destinations in Mexicowithin the framework of soccer world cup which will take place next year in three locations in the country.
Mérida and the soccer world cup
He noted that he plans to take advantage of the city’s connectivity with the World Cup venues – Guadalajara, CDMX and Monterrey – with the intention of attracting part of the flow of visitors to the Yucatecan capital.
Cecilia Patrón highlighted that they will seek to offer community experiences, gastronomic routes, workshops, visits to markets, tours, hotels and living traditions, with the aim of generating a real impact, which translates into more income for the people of the city and a boost to the local economy. Cecilia Patrón also announced the Municipal Green Infrastructure Plan, which is part of the territorial diagnosis. The integration of the Municipal Technical Committee for Green Infrastructureorganized into seven groups: biodiversity; botany and arboriculture; mobility; public space; adaptation and mitigation to climate change; environmental regulations and legislation; and digital tools.

The mayor explained that five interventions will be carried out: habitat trees, recreational space, bioengineering, rain garden and community murals.
He added that, for this biocorridor, three lines of action were taken into account: solutions based on nature; participatory processes; and strengthening of institutional capacities, in addition to maintenance, replicability and monitoring measures.
Protection of trees in the city
