The murder of Carlos Manzo once again placed Mexico at a point of tension: while violence persists in states like Michoacán, the opposition takes political advantage of the tragedy and the United States revives its discourse of “cooperation” in security. Mexico City, November 3 (However).- The murder of Carlos Manzo, President Municipal of Uruapan, Michoacanhas raised alarms not only due to the violence that persists in regions of the country, but also due to the way in which various political and media actors, and even the government of USA (EU), they seek to profit from the tragedy. The journalists Ana Lilia Pérez, Alina Duarte, Perla Velázquez and Alejandro Páez They agreed that the crime confirms the urgency for the Government of the President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo must urgently consolidate its strategy security to avoid the meddling foreigner under any pretext.
“I believe that there is a rush from the Government of President Sheinbaum, a rush for the strategy to work, the strategy has to work, there is no way for it not to work. Omar García Harfuch has to play his role, the Armed Forces have to play their role,” said Alejandro Páez.
The journalist warned that the violence in Michoacán once again opens the door to Washington’s interventionist interests in our country.
“The issue of Michoacán is very old, but now we have a real problem: the gringos are looking for any justification to get their hands on Mexico. They want to be here; any pretext is good because they see business,” he warned.
For her part, Perla Velázquez warned that the opposition is trying to use the case as a new instrument of political attack, without recognizing the historical origin of the violence.
“We are beginning to see the actions of each of the opposition people, how they take these elements to begin forgetting what the war on drug trafficking leaves behind,” he said.
He recalled that President Claudia Sheinbaum described this attitude as “scavenger,” pointing out that “they act like vultures” more interested in hitting the government than in regretting the murder.
“I think the President makes many clear points this morning, about how her security strategy is based on intelligence and not extrajudicial executions, as we previously saw with Felipe Calderón’s war,” Velázquez stressed.
This weekend, in the wake of the assassination of Carlos Manzo, Mayor of Uruapan, Christopher Landau, Undersecretary of State of the United States, said that his country “is willing to deepen security cooperation with Mexico to eradicate organized crime on both sides of the border.”
Meanwhile, Ronald Johnson, United States Ambassador to Mexico, declared: “We are united with Mexico as sovereign partners and friends, with the firm commitment to ensure justice and strengthen the security that our communities deserve.”
“No intervention. Mexico is a free and sovereign country. As Omar said [García Harfuch] Yesterday, we accepted help in information and intelligence, but not intervention. The only way to build peace and security is justice, social justice and a true justice system where there is zero impunity,” he indicated this Monday.
In this regard, Alina Duarte pointed out that the media has also contributed to distorting the context of violence in Mexico.
“One thing is the security strategy and another is the media, which are there waiting like vultures for anything. There is not even condolences, it is making a scandal out of this and little is recovered from the memory of how we got here,” he said.
Duarte added that beyond the role played by some media in these types of events, there is another actor that is involved in all of this: the United States.
He recalled that during the so-called “war on drugs,” the neighboring country “played a fundamental role in pressing for it to be carried out,” and that today it appears again with the same interventionist discourse.
Finally, Ana Lilia Pérez insisted that Carlos Manzo’s crime should be seen as a human tragedy and not as political loot.
“The murder of Carlos Manzo is a tragedy that we must raise from that point of view, because this crime and everything around it is already a very serious message,” he said.
He regretted that “part of the political class is waiting for these kinds of tragedies to bring water to their mill,” and recalled that Manzo denounced extortions that directly affected the population.
“I wish we had a political class that was up to the task, so as not to try to get political shit,” he added.
