Mexico City, November 19 (However).- The President of USA (US), Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia was designated as a important ally outside of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (I’LL TAKE), in addition to signing a defense agreement with this Kingdom.
“Tonight I am pleased to announce that we are taking our military cooperation to even greater heights by formally designating Saudi Arabia as a major non-NATO ally,” said the White House tenant.
“This is something very important for them,” Trump added in reference to the authorities of the Arab country, in addition to emphasizing that both countries signed “a historic strategic defense agreement.”
The official document of the agreement states that “the Kingdom considers the United States as its main strategic partner.” In this sense, the White House reported that the package of agreements expands the “strategic alliance” of both parties in matters of defense, energy, technology and investments.
The US announcement includes a military agreement, and investment commitments from Saudi Arabia for almost a trillion dollars, as well as new frameworks for nuclear, mining and artificial intelligence cooperation.
In the first instance, when President Donald Trump visited the Saudi-United States Investment Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, an initial commitment of $600 billion was reached, but after Tuesday’s visit by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the amount rose to almost $1 trillion.
“Well, I like it a lot,” said the American president during the meeting.
“It is a special privilege to welcome His Royal Highness to Washington this year, as we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the first meeting between an American president and a Saudi king… right now, you have the best friend you have ever had,” Trump added.
According to the official document, the objective of the agreement is to strengthen critical supply chains and generate jobs in the United States. Regarding technological and energy arrangements, both governments signed a joint declaration after negotiating cooperation in civil nuclear energy.
In addition, under technological protection conditions set by Washington, Saudi Arabia will be able to access US systems thanks to a memorandum of understanding on artificial intelligence. Both countries also signed up to a framework on critical minerals to diversify value chains.
