Mexico City, November 22 (However).- The National Weather Service (SMN) reported this Saturday that a descent of the temperature in it northwest Mexico caused by the first winter storm and the cold front number 16.
“In the next few hours, the movement of the first winter storm of the 2025-2026 season and cold front number 16 over the northwest of the Mexican Republic is expected to generate a drop in temperatures and very strong winds in the region,” indicated the agency in charge of monitoring the climate.
The SMN also reported the presence of very heavy rains (50 to 75 millimeters [mm]) in Baja California (north and center); strong (25 to 50 mm) in Sonora (northwest and north) and intervals of showers (from five to 25 mm) in Baja California Sur and Chihuahua.
Low temperatures will be accompanied by snow and/or sleet in the mountain areas of Baja California, Sonora and Chihuahua. Gusts of wind will appear in these states and will vary with speeds between 50 to 80 kilometers per hour; In addition, there will be waves of two to three meters high on the western coast of the Baja California peninsula.

Minimum temperatures of minus five to zero degrees Celsius with frost were also forecast in mountain areas of Baja California,
Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas during the early hours of Sunday.
Cold front 15 extends over the north and northeast
The agency stated that cold front number 15 will extend with stationary characteristics over the north, northeast and central states of Mexican territory with heavy rains in Coahuila (northeast), Nuevo León (north) and Tamaulipas (northwest and north); intervals of showers in San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Veracruz (Huasteca Alta, Huasteca Baja, Totonaca, Las Montañas, Capital, Papaloapan and Olmeca regions), Puebla (Sierra Norte and Sierra Nororiental regions) and isolated rains (from 0.1 to 5 mm) in Guanajuato, State of Mexico, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
In addition, a low pressure channel will occur in the east and southeast of the country, as well as the entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
The climate agency warned the population that the rainfall expected for this day could be accompanied by electric shocks, the generation of flooding, landslides and flooding in low areas of the aforementioned states.

“Likewise, the aforementioned winds could knock down trees and advertisements, so the population is urged to heed the warnings of the SMN, the National Water Commission (Conagua) and take extreme precautions against wind and high waves,” he indicated.
“Due to the low temperatures, the population is recommended to take preventive measures such as covering up and hydrating adequately, avoiding sudden changes in temperature, paying special attention to the chronically ill, children and older adults, so the population is urged to heed the warnings of the SMN, Conagua and follow the recommendations of the state and Civil Protection authorities,” concluded the SMN.
