PROGRESS.— Teachers, specialists and parents participated in a training session dedicated to strengthening the tools and skills for the educational care of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in order to build more inclusive school environments that are sensitive to their needs.

The “Basic Training for Regular Educational Care of Autistic Students” is part of a comprehensive program, whose objective is to transform teaching practice and promote a deeper understanding of the sensory, behavioral and academic challenges faced by students with ASD in the school context.

The activity was promoted by the Blue Network, for mutual support between families and specialists in this port.

During the session, the central topic was “Understanding the educational and sensory needs of the student with ASD”, in which essential concepts were addressed to improve educational intervention from a respectful, human and evidence-based approach.

The facilitators stressed that caring for students with autism requires not only technical knowledge, but also a special sensitivity towards their particular way of perceiving the world.

Among the points discussed, the identification of sensory stimuli that can be overwhelming, the importance of anticipating changes in routine, the use of visual supports and the creation of quiet spaces that promote emotional self-regulation stood out.

Likewise, the importance of collaboration between teachers, specialists and families was explained to promote the comprehensive development of students, highlighting that constant communication between school and home is key to achieving sustained progress.

The organizers pointed out to attendees that each session of this training represents an opportunity for education professionals to become “better learning managers”, capable of accompanying the processes of students with various educational needs and responding to them with more effective and respectful strategies.

The educational authorities recalled that this type of activities contributes to the strengthening of inclusive practices in classrooms, allowing progress towards a more equitable educational model, in which all students find conditions that facilitate their participation and learning.
