MEXICO CITY.— The murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzomotivated an energetic statement from the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex).
The organization, with its 71 Business Centers, condemned the crime, which it described as “a serious affront to the rule of law and the social peace that all Mexicans demand.”
He expressed his solidarity with the mayor’s family, with the inhabitants of the municipality and with those who live in fear in the face of the growing violence that hits different regions of the country.
Coparmex demanded the authorities of the three levels an “immediate, professional and transparent” investigation that clarifies the facts, punishes those responsible and combats impunity, which “cannot continue to be a constant in crimes against public servants, businessmen, journalists and citizens.”
He stressed that ensure safety and the order is a indeclinable responsibility of the Mexican State and an indispensable condition to sustain the governance and trust citizen in institutions.
During the Security Forum 2025the Secretary of Security of Uruapan, General Francisco Nietohad exposed the deficiencies in weapons, training and vehicles that the municipality faced. Coparmex recalled that, given these limitations, the mayor Carlos Manzo Undertook a process of police purification and strengthening, with the acquisition of equipment and supplies to improve the conditions of the security elements.
Therefore, he considered that this context evidences the seriousness of the crime and the urgency of a comprehensive national security strategycoordinated and with a preventive approach, that recovers public spaces and strengthens local police forces.
Coparmex demanded an immediate meeting between the productive sector, civil associations and federal and state security authorities to explain what actions are being taken and with what results.
He warned that Mexico “cannot and should not get used to violence”, and reiterated his commitment to legality and justice, and stressed that security is “the basis for development economic, social and human of the country.”
The events in Michoacán, he pointed out, are an urgent call to redouble efforts and regain peace throughout the national territory.
Concanaco statement
The Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco) assured that the crime of Carlos Manzo confirms the sad reality in the country and that immediate actions against crime are urgently needed.
In a statement, the organization indicated that the country requires “a brave government that protects those who work every day for the common good. How many more citizens must fall victims to a system where impunity reigns..?”, he questioned.
