ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s cabinet of ministers has approved a proposal to recruit 8,547 workers into the public sector, minister Vijitha Herath said.

The Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs is to hire 5,198 people, while the the Ministry of Buddhism, Religious and Cultural Affairs is to hire 1,261.

“The proposal to grant approval to the relevant Ministries and institutions to make the following recruitments was approved by the Cabinet,” Herath told reporters.

In May, the cabinet approved the recruitment of 15,073 workers for vacancies in 18 line ministries, 4 provincial councils and 2 special expenditure units.
