A shooting at Concord’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday evening(November 21) left four people injured, authorities confirmed.

According to Concord Police, three victims are in critical condition while one is listed as stable. All four were transported to a local hospital for urgent medical care.

The incident occurred shortly before 7:30 pm near the intersection of Union Street S and Corban Avenue, where the holiday event was taking place. Police, fire, and Cabarrus County EMS personnel were already on site and responded immediately, providing medical assistance and evacuating the injured.
Three people were reported in critical condition and one in stable condition following the shooting in Concord, a city located approximately 19 miles (30 kilometers) northeast of Charlotte, according to an official statement from city authorities.

Authorities are reviewing video footage from the event and conducting interviews with witnesses, the city said. Officials are urging anyone who captured photos or videos of the incident to come forward and share them with law enforcement.


“We are praying for the safety of our brave law enforcement officers, first responders, and everyone on the scene,” US Rep. Mark Harris of North Carolina said in a post on the social platform X.In the aftermath, organizers canceled the remainder of the event. City officials advised attendees to leave the area and urged drivers to seek alternate routes.Concord Police confirmed that the shooting remains under investigation. Authorities have not released further details about a suspect or possible motive.

The annual tree lighting, a long-standing holiday tradition in Concord, was marred by the violence, leaving the community in shock as law enforcement continues its investigation.
