Several groups of farmers launched a National Agricultural Strike this Monday to demand an increase in the guaranteed prices of various corn; Sader announced increases and credits for the sector.
Mexico City, October 27 (However).– Farmer groups y peasants he blocked with its various machines country roads and they have launched a National Agricultural Strike to demand from federal government what increase los guarantee prices of its products, especially corn. The main peasant groups are those of Guanajuato, Guerrero, Michoacán, Jalisco and Morelos, But the protests have also spread to Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, Baja California, Tlaxcala and the State of Mexico.
The protests had intensified in the last few hours, since on Monday afternoon the negotiation tables with Segob were at a standstill until Sader’s announcement. Around 4:00 p.m., a group of farmers even tried to slam the door at the agency’s facilities, located in Mexico City.

The groups of representatives clashed with the police and tried to tear down the fences at one of the gates of Segob. According to local media, farmers are seeking a guaranteed price for corn of 7,200 pesos per ton, but Segob offered 5,200 pesos per ton. The Secretariats of Agriculture and Economy participate in the negotiations.
After the incident, farmer representatives indicated that the strike could extend as widely as up to 20 entities and could paralyze strategic points of the country. Then, Sader responded with an increase to her first proposal.
Later, around 5:00 p.m., the head of Sader, Julio Berdegué, announced that a price of 6,050 pesos per ton of white corn will be implemented in Guanajuato, Jalisco and Michoacán. “This price is 25 percent higher than the international market price for corn, located in the center of the country,” he argued in a video on social networks where he made the announcement.

“The announced measure also includes a credit for white corn producers with an annual interest rate of 8.5 percent, plus the support of agricultural insurance. The windows will open as soon as possible for white corn producers of the three entities that want to register, and the governments of Jalisco, Guanajuato and Michoacán will also publish their operational mechanisms of complementary support, to complete the indicated price,” he concluded.
However, they did not give details on the rest of the entities where they also protested demanding an increase in guarantee prices.
The blockades reached several points
Starting at 2:30 p.m. this Monday, members of the Guanajuatense Agricultural Improvement Committee completely blocked both directions of the León-Aguascalientes highway, after being notified that there were no agreements during the negotiations held in Mexico City with federal authorities.
The most affected point is the junction towards the Santa Rosa Plan de Ayala community booth, where traffic remains completely stopped. The lines of vehicles and cargo units already reach several kilometers.

Authorities and representatives of the committee urged people to avoid traveling through the area, since in different sections of the state, where the blockades had been partial in the morning, they are now maintained completely and without a defined time for their release.
In Tamaulipas, the Matamoros-San Fernando highway is partially blocked, near La Herradura.
In Jalisco, the protests are more intense, as there are blockades on three main routes into and out of the state: Guadalajara-Colima; that of Guadalajara-Tepic; and the Ocotlán highway.

In Michoacán, another of the nerve centers of the blockades, the Panindícuaro, Ecuandureo, Vista Hermosa and Zinapécuaro booths have been taken; They are allowing vehicles to pass freely through them, but intermittently. Blockages are also reported on the Western Mexico-Guadalajara highway.
In Tlaxcala, there is a traffic block on the Mexico-Veracruz federal highway, near Nanacamilpa. In Guerrero, in the south of the country, the protests are located on the Siglo XXI Highway.
In Baja California, in the north of the country, there is no blockade, but free passage of vehicles is being given on the Tijuana-San Felipe highway. Also in the north, in Sinaloa, the step is taken in El Pisal; and in Edomex they took the El Dorado booth, in Ixtapaluca.
