The search for Rodrigo Mondragón by family and friends lasted approximately six hours, throughout the early hours of Sunday, October 26. His family and friends demanded with a demonstration in front of the headquarters of the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office of Azcapotzalco justice for “Monky”, as the Cruz Azul fan was known.
The UNAM Civil Protection Directorate issued a statement on Sunday morning, stating that at the end of the match between Cruz Azul and Monterrey at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario, when the people remaining in the parking lots of the sports venue were being removed, “a person in an apparent state of intoxication verbally and physically attacked the stadium security personnel, violently impeding their work.”
“The person managed to be subdued by said security elements for delivery to the authorities. During the journey of his transfer, he fainted, so the support of paramedics was immediately requested to provide the corresponding medical attention. Despite the efforts to revive him, unfortunately, the absence of vital signs was determined,” he said.
Given this situation, he requested the support of personnel from the Secretariat of Citizen Security and the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City, to initiate the corresponding investigations and define responsibilities of the personnel who were involved in the events.
“Currently, four people are being investigated before the Public Ministry and all the evidence available will be provided to clarify what happened,” he concluded. According to local media, the four people identified are security guards belonging to UNAM’s own Civil Protection.
But the family and friends of Rodrigo Mondragón also denounce a cover-up, since this situation occurred around midnight on Saturday and the authorities confirmed his death to them on Sunday morning; They report that for several hours they avoided giving information about what was happening and he was never presented at a hospital.

For its part, the Cruz Azul Club issued its own message this Monday. “The Institution accompanies the family and friends of the fan Rodrigo Mondragón and calls on the authorities to quickly clarify the facts,” he said on his social networks.
