The municipal president Cecilia Patrón Laviada had a reforestation day in the Las Américas subdivision, where together with neighbors, volunteers and civil organizations, 50 donated trees were planted to strengthen the city, a bulletin reports.
The activity took place in the green area on 130th Street and 57-B, which was recently confirmed as an area intended for community use after agreements reached with residents of the subdivision through dialogue and mutual agreements.
“Thanks to dialogue and listening to each other, it was possible for the people who had the donation to have another piece of land and this space is left for the community use of the families,” said the councilor.
“Mérida is governed with closeness, dialogue and respect. When people raise their voices, we are here to listen and respond.”
He also highlighted that this takes another step towards ensuring that Las Américas has clean, safe spaces with more trees.
As part of other agreements, “You and I” chairs were placed, and a well was dug with its booth that will allow access to irrigate this wooded area.
The mayor thanked the will of Mrs. Nelsy and Miguel Pérez, neighbors who raised their hands to donate a water pump for irrigation, a teamwork that allows everyone together to have public spaces that belong to the people, harmonious, greener and that create community.
The active participation of the Neighborhood Committee of Las Américas, the Women Working for Yucatán Association, as well as the Secretariat of Participation and Citizen Attention and the Environment and Animal Welfare Unit, joined this action in favor of the environment to plant even more trees with fruit species such as sour orange.
“Planting a tree is thinking about the future of Mérida, in a healthier city where our children can grow up with greater well-being,” added the mayor.
The event is part of the Mérida Verde municipal strategy, which promotes permanent actions to strengthen the environmental infrastructure of the entire city.
Thanks to this public policy, Mérida registers significant advances such as: 159,148 trees planted throughout the municipality.
In addition to 44,665 trees adopted by families through the “One family, one tree” program; 1,859 tons of materials collected in the 15 Green Points; 1,746 native species produced in the municipal nursery, and more than 10,000 trees planted in the Forest Crusade 2025, with the participation of 11,328 people.
Added to this are affirmative actions to preserve the city’s green infrastructure with 107 declarations of trees with cultural and heritage value; and the commissioning of 2,000 Air-Pots acquired to improve the development of new stronger and faster growing species.
Cecilia Patrón highlighted that these actions reflect the City Council’s commitment to the right to the city, which includes more green areas, clean roads, well-lit streets and public spaces that promote well-being and coexistence.
A City Council that is committed to continuing to advance with order and social justice, with the participation of its citizens, in a city that grows, strengthens and breathes better when everyone is part of the solution.
Donation
Mayor Cecilia Patrón recalled that on November 15, the City Council held an open dialogue with the residents to address their concerns about the possible donation of a private property in Las Américas.
For everyone
Thanks to the good will between neighbors and the donee, an agreement was reached that guarantees that the land remains a safe green area, intended for coexistence and enjoyment of all families.
