Yucatecan honey once again stood out at the national level, after four producers from Hunucmá were recognized in the annual contest organized by the National Association of Veterinary Doctors Specialists in Bees (ANMVEA), held within the framework of the 31st edition of the International Beekeeping Update Congress based in Veracruz, it is reported in a statement.
Thanks to the technical support and training that the pork producing company Kekén has been providing to local producers for five years, they managed to place themselves among the best in the country, standing out in various categories of this contest that rewards the quality, safety, color, texture and flavor of the honey.
Winners
In this 2025 edition, based in the Veracruz municipality of Boca del Río, the winners from the Yucatecan entity were: Miguel Ángel Pech Cocom, with third place in the Dark Liquid Honey category; Félix Antonio Martín Yam, Margarita Beatriz Cab Rodríguez and Magdalena Gio Tum, deserving of third, second and first place in the medium honey color category.
After this achievement, the work and commitment of the beekeepers was recognized in an event framed by the 19th anniversary of the city of Hunucmá, where the municipal president, Cristina Pérez Bojórquez, was present; the Director of Sustainability of Kekén, Miguel Carbajal, and the leader of the beekeeping project, Annel Carrillo.
During the meeting, Miguel Carbajal highlighted the pride that this achievement represents for the company.
“For us it is a pride to be part of this history, it is a recognition of the people who have trusted Kekén to train in good beekeeping practices and with pride to say that today the best honey in Mexico is produced here in Hunucmá, Yucatán,” he said.
Growth
The mayor, Cristina Pérez Bojórquez, recognized the role of the agri-food company as an ally of local development through projects and initiatives that contribute to the growth of businesses and the family economy of the municipality.

Finally, the first place winner, Magdalena Gío Tum, shared her excitement about this new achievement, the second she has obtained thanks to her efforts and the knowledge acquired in the Kekén beekeeping project.
“We realized that we are going on the right path, we are doing things well. It means that everything that the engineer is teaching us we are putting into practice and it is working for us, we are demonstrating it in the competitions, and we are showing that Yucatan honey has value.”
It is worth remembering that since 2021, various members from Hunucmá and Kinchil, who are part of the agri-food company’s beekeeping initiative, have been among the first places each year in the annual competitions organized by the ANMVEA.
