PROGRESO.— On the occasion of Hanal Pixán, yesterday morning the “Mártires de Chicago” school held a festival with various presentations.
The esplanade, which functioned as a stage, featured a large altar with all the elements that by tradition must be included and thus, with all the students and parents around the place, they began the festival.
First there were the honors to the Flag and the oath to it by the student Yamilé Jiménez Chávez.
Then it was the turn of the fourth grade students, who performed for those present a poem titled “Hanal Pixán,” which they recited in both Mayan and Spanish.
Then it was the turn of the fifth grade students, from group A to C, to explain the elements of the altar placed in the center of the stage, demonstrating knowledge and mastery of topics related to traditions.
The third year students carried out the walk of the black and white souls. It was explained that the first are those who were lovingly awaited by their families and who had a life on the path of goodness, while their counterparts are those who did evil in life and today wander between cries of agony and suffering, seeking to atone for their guilt.
The sixth grade students recited the poem “The House of My Soul,” first in the Mayan language and then in Spanish, also drawing applause from those present.
The fourth years participated on a second occasion to perform the popular song “La Llorona”, also in Mayan and Spanish.— Abraham Ismael Raz Herrera
