LIMA, Peru.- The Peruvian government authorized entry into the country of dozens of US military who will remain in the territory throughout 2026 to participate in support activities and training exercises with the Armed forces and the National Police of Peru (PNP).
The resolution, which allows the presence of the foreign military with weapons of warwas approved by Congress last December 4th and published this sunday by the Executive in the bulletin of legal regulations of the official newspaper El Peruano.
US military training activities

According to the norm, military personnel of the Department of Defense of USA From January 1 to December 31, 2026, it will carry out various training, support and assistance activities with the Peruvian security forces.
The US military will remain in different groups, which will rotate every 3 to 6 months, throughout the year.
The units will include members of special forces, Navy SEAL team, civil affairs and military information support.
Institutions involved


For Peru, the institutions involved will be the Joint Intelligence and Special Operations Command (Cioec), at Joint Task Force (FEC), the Special Operations Forces (FOES) of the Navy and the Special Forces Group (Grufe) from Peruvian Air Force.
In addition, the first, third and sixth brigades of the Army’s Special Forces and specialized units of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), such as the Directorate of Special Operations (Diroes), the Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro) and the Special Group Against Organized Crime (Grecco).
The resolution was published with the signatures of the Peruvian president, JosĂ© JerĂand the president of Congress, Fernando Rospigliosia day after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hugo de Zelaconfirmed that the Government of Donald Trump notified his country’s Congress of its intention to designate Peru as a “principal non-NATO member ally.”
De Zela maintained that a measure of this type “what it is about is, fundamentally, a political gesture, of declaring that the Peru is a reliable country in terms of security and defense“, which will put the Peruvian Armed Forces “in a privileged position of cooperation and facilities (…) in terms of military cooperation with the United States.”

Last Wednesday, the president of Peru, JosĂ© JerĂheld a working meeting at the Government Palace in Lima with a delegation from the FBI and other security experts from the United States, as part of the process of developing a new national citizen security plan.
The Peruvian Government assured that this was “the first of several consultative meetings” that will be held this month between representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Defense, as well as the PNP, with the delegation of experts from the United States.
