Migrant organizations asked the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum to strengthen the consular network in the United States and update laws and public policies that respond to the current realities in that country.
Mexico City, November 11 (However).- More than 100 organizations migrants of USA y Mexico They made an urgent call to the President Claudia Sheinbaum on Monday, by means of a letter, to strengthen protection of said community in the country that is under the administration of the President Donald Trump.
“We are alarmed by recent reports showing a dramatic increase in raids and arrests of Mexican people, especially in cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, where Mexican migrant communities are pillars of the workforce, community life and social fabric,” says the statement in which concern was expressed about illegal arrests, arbitrary detentions, mass deportations and family separation.
Given that more and more Mexican families live in constant fear of being separated, of losing their livelihood or seeing their life project cut short, the group of migrants demanded “a determined response with sufficient resources to respond to the growing protection needs of Mexican communities”, which is why they requested the reinforcement of the Legal Assistance Program for Mexican People through the External Legal Advisory Program (PALE).
In this sense, among the points that the migrant community requested from the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum, the strengthening of the consular network in the United States stands out, since it was explained that these spaces are overwhelmed and do not
They do not have sufficient personnel or resources to offer documentation services and consular protection for people detained by immigration authorities.
Another demand from migrants is to expand and deepen the “Mexico Abraza te” program, with the aim of this initiative being much more than a reception upon entering the national territory and, in this way, providing information and access to social programs and services, especially to guarantee the right to identity, education, health, housing and job opportunities.
“Additional and sufficient resources must be allocated to the secretariats responsible for the reintegration of deportees and the inclusion of their families,” the document states.
Likewise, the organizations requested to strengthen the centralized database that supports consular protection, so that this platform facilitates the monitoring of deportation cases and avoids duplication of processes, as well as the repetitive transfer of information between consulates. “It must be developed
a public interface component that guarantees greater efficiency, transparency and effective protection,” states the letter sent to Claudia Sheinbaum.
In addition to the above, the migrant community asked to train all consulates to care for migrants with disabilities, and to promote from Congress the Union an update of laws and public policies that respond to the current realities of migrants and their families, given the measures promoted by Donald Trump’s government.
“We trust that the Government of Mexico will act with the urgency and commitment that this situation demands to guarantee the protection, dignity and integrity of Mexican people abroad, as well as all migrants who arrive in Mexican territory in search of security and hope,” concludes the document that asked the Government of Mexico to prioritize “human security.”
