Mexico City, November 6 (However).– The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Michoacan reported this Thursday that confirmed the identity of the autor material of the murder of the Mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo: this is a 17 year old young man resident of the municipality of Paracho, Victor Manuel Ubaldo Vidales. The authorities also stressed that in the homicide participated “more than two people” and is related “to groups of the organized crime“.
“On the afternoon of November 5, the body of the perpetrator of this homicide was identified and claimed. He is Víctor Manuel Ubaldo Vidales, 17 years old, originally from and resident of the municipality of Paracho, Michoacán,” reported the Prosecutor of Michoacán, Carlos Torres Piña, in a video published on social networks.
“Víctor Manuel’s family recognized that he was absent from home a week before the events. His identification allows us to continue advancing in this investigation, in its context and possible more participants. It is important to reiterate that the expert opinions of the body, confirming the hypothesis of material authorship, as well as his addictions to methamphetamine, information ratified by his relatives,” added.
Víctor Manuel’s body was handed over to his relatives for burial.
In addition, the Prosecutor of Michoacán confirmed that, through intelligence work, “more than two people participated in the murder of Carlos Manzo” and reiterated that the homicide “is related to organized crime groups”, in particular the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
“The investigation work is maintained in a coordinated manner between federal and state authorities. We appreciate the support and support of Secretary Omar García Harfuch, as well as his team. This fact will not go unpunished,” concluded the Prosecutor of Michoacán.
What is the case of the murder of Carlos Manzo going?
Prosecutor Torres Piña highlighted in an interview with The Financier that one of the lines of investigation considers the possible connection between the murder of Municipal President Carlos Manzo and the recent arrest of René Belmonte Aguilar, alias “El Rino”, designated as the regional leader of the cartel, by elements of the municipal police of Uruapan.
However, he added that no hypothesis has been ruled out and that all lines of investigation remain open.
And the official explained that the weapon used in the homicide of Carlos Manzo is related to two previous attacks committed in that same city, which reinforces the line of investigation that points to the CJNG as the alleged perpetrator.
The Prosecutor detailed that the first attack occurred on October 16, when two people were murdered, while the second took place on October 23 in a bar, where one victim lost his life and another was injured. In both cases, the victims were allegedly linked to a rival organization of the CJNG.
He also told the newspaper that the 14 elements of the National Guard assigned to escort Carlos Manzo, as well as the eight municipal police officers in charge of his close security, have already testified before the Prosecutor’s Office.
