The UN Security Council endorsed President Trump’s plan for a peace deal between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
MADRID, Nov. 18. (EUROPA PRESS) – The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahuapplauded this Tuesday the resolution approved by the Security Council of Nations United to support the plan of the President of the United States (EU), Donald Trumpfor the Gaza Stripincluding the deployment of an international peacekeeping force.
Netanyahu, who highlighted Trump’s work to achieve the approval of his planhighlighted that “the UN Security Council fully supports Trump’s 20-point plan and the appointment of the Peace Board, which will be led by President Trump.”
“We believe that Trump’s plan will lead to peace and prosperity, because it insists on demilitarization, disarmament and an end to radicalization in Gaza,” he declared, before highlighting that “this will lead to greater integration of Israel and its neighbors, as well as an expansion of the ‘Abraham Accords’.”
Thus, he insisted that “President Trump’s innovative leadership will help guide the region towards peace and prosperity, as well as towards a lasting alliance with the United States,” while underlining that “Israel extends its hand as a gesture of peace and prosperity to all neighbors and asks them to normalize relations with Israel and help expel Hamas and all its supporters in the region.”
“In cooperation with the United States and other countries that signed President Trump’s plan, we hope to receive all the deceased hostages without delay and begin the process of disarmament and demilitarization of the Gaza Strip to end Hamas’ rule over Gaza,” he reiterated.
Finally, the Israeli Prime Minister stressed that “the bravery and sacrifice of the brave soldiers, along with Trump’s diplomatic efforts, helped bring home all the hostages who were still alive and most of the deceased.”
Trump’s so-called 20-point Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict includes the creation of a Peace Board to be chaired by Trump himself and which will have the final say on issues relating to the government of the Gaza Strip, run by Palestinian technocrats.
In addition, it provides for the creation of an International Stabilization Force of 20,000 troops that will allow progress towards the next phases of the peace plan, which ultimately contemplates the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the possible creation of a Palestinian State, something to which Israel has already expressed its firm opposition.
Hamas rejects peace plan for Gaza approved by the UN
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) rejected this Tuesday the United Nations Security Council resolution on the so-called peace plan of the United States Government, considering that it does not live up to the political and humanitarian demands of the Palestinian people.
Hamas explained that the resolution approved at the United Nations does not specifically cover the demands of the Gaza Strip and recalls that the Palestinian territory “has suffered for two long years a brutal war of extermination and unprecedented crimes committed by the Israeli terrorist occupation.”
“The resolution imposes an international guardianship mechanism over the Gaza Strip, which our people, forces and factions reject,” as well as “a mechanism to achieve the objectives of the occupation that it failed to achieve through the brutal war of extermination,” Hamas explained in a statement.
Likewise, he pointed out that the text “attempts to impose new realities that are very far removed” from the “legitimate rights” of the Palestinian people, including self-determination and the establishment of a State with Jerusalem as its capital.
Hamas also highlighted that the clause in Trump’s so-called peace plan that includes the disarmament of the Palestinian militia and the deployment of an international force to stabilize the territory “eliminates its neutrality and makes it part of the conflict in favor of the occupation.”
Hamas establishes that any force of this type must be under the supervision of the United Nations and in constant coordination with the Palestinian authorities, and be in charge of monitoring the ceasefire from the borders of Gazan territory “without the occupation having any role in it.”
The Palestinian group also focused on the delivery of humanitarian aid since, in its opinion, it continues to be subjected to the “blackmail” and “politicization” of Israel, which is also responsible for an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe,” which “demands the urgent opening of border crossings.”
Finally, Hamas asked the international community and the United Nations Security Council to adopt measures that do achieve “justice” for the Palestinian people and their cause, such as “the end of the occupation” and the “brutal war of extermination” and the possibility of determining its own destiny as a State.
