MEXICO CITY.- The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumassured this Thursday that until now the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manerohas not expressed his intention to resignas has emerged in the media in recent hours, although he confirmed that received a letter from the Senate in this regard, which is still being analyzed.
“Until now he has not expressed it to me (his intention to resign),” said the president during her morning press conference.
Gertz Manero would resign from the FGR
The president’s reaction occurs after different media outlets assured that this Thursday Gertz Manero, head of the FGR since January 2019, would present his resignation before the Mexican Senate, which called an extraordinary session this Thursday.
Claudia Sheinbaum explained that she received a document sent from the Upper Housenot the Prosecutor’s and that is being analyzed with his legal team.
“Yo I received a document from the Senatewhich I am analyzing. In due course I will make it public and tomorrow I will be able to inform you,” he stated.

Without giving more details, Claudia Sheinbaum insisted that will not advance conclusions until the formal review of the writing is completed.
“What I am reporting is that I received a letter from the Senate of the Republic. I am analyzing it with the lawyers, the Legal Department, and tomorrow we will inform you,” he insisted.

When asked about her evaluation of Gertz Manero’s performance, the president stated that “he has done a good job leading the prosecution” and highlighted the institutional cooperation during his government.
However, he stressed that the country needs to strengthen coordination between authorities.
“I think that we need much more coordination between the state prosecutor’s offices and the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic. There are security issues that it is very important that there be greater coordination, that is what we have been working on since we arrived,” he said.
Why would Alejandro Gertz Manero resign?
According to some versions that have circulated on social networks, the possible resignation of the 86-year-old official is due to health reasons.
Among the possible successors in office would be the former minister and former president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Arturo Zaldívar, and the legal advisor of the National Palace, Ernestina Godoy.
