The President maintained that the true transformation came with the 4T, and that those who do not have popular support are looking for other mechanisms to be recognized.
Mexico City, October 28 (However).- The President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo He assured this Tuesday that Mexico goes through a stage of greater democracy that what was experienced during sexennium of Ernesto Zedillowhom he accused of having taken decisions authoritarian y anti-democratic since the beginning of his mandate.
During her morning conference, President Sheinbaum Pardo pointed out that Zedillo imposed a new Supreme Court without citizen consultation, after modifying the Constitution to remove the acting ministers.
“In effect, Zedillo’s six-year term was characterized by many antidemocratic measures, many. Well, the first one he started with: the previous Court disappeared and he created his own. Because that’s how it was: he came to the Government, he presented a proposal to modify the Constitution, he removed all those who were on the Court; but unlike now, when the people appointed them, he decided them. He decided one by one who was going to be part of the Court. Court,” said the federal president.
The federal president also criticized Zedillo’s narrative about the democratic transition: “What does he say? ‘I allowed there to be a transition from the PRI to the PAN.’ No, well, that was agreed upon with the United States, said by Labastida,” she expressed.
Furthermore, he assured that during the 36 years of neoliberalism there was alternation between parties, but without modifying the economic model, which he described as a “false democracy.”
He also defended the project of the Fourth Transformation (4T) as a path towards true freedom and popular representation.
“Democracy is that the people choose. Of course, those who do not have the support of the people want other forms of recognition,” he said.
In response to criticism about alleged setbacks in democracy, President Sheinbaum highlighted that minorities are represented in Congress and that a more authentic freedom is experienced in Mexico today.
“Like what is fashionable now, freedom, the right’s favorite word ‘freedom’. What freedom are they looking for? The freedom of the market while some die of hunger because they have low salaries, as happened for 36 years with neoliberalism. What freedom? The freedom of the market without any intervention, because that is what they appeal to. In reality it is a false freedom and it is a false democracy that it defends,” he said.
Finally, the federal president stated that the country faces two Nation projects: one that is committed to rights, sovereignty and democracy; and another that seeks to return to the past of authoritarianism, repression and dominance of economic power.
“True freedom is what is experienced today in Mexico,” he expressed.
